I would hope that the Nation would understand our political system better than that. It’s nearly impossible to create a new large scale party. The last time that happened, we had a Civil War and the old party disappeared.

A winner take all system creates incentives for existing parties to coopt the messages of smaller parties if they become a threat. Maybe the Nation can ask scholars how much Du Bois’ boycott helped his cause.
