Because there is a thread of conservativism that traces itself not just back to the anti-federalism of the CSA but to the anti-federalism of, well, the Anti-Federalists. The Federalist Society’s logo is, absurdly, a profile of Madison, who after writing the constitution and supporting ratification helped found the party that opposes the actual Federalists.
