re: #196 Great White Snark

With all respect to how abuses must be opposed and set aside-
My opposition is proportionate to the quality of the public school system. Where those are solid schools whose students enjoy good solid scholastic results, we hardly have any need for vouchers or home schooling.

Where the public school system fails, I want those options on the books. My motivation is completely about enabling parents to have a good school at hand, or be able to adjust as required by circumstances.

The problem is that if the public schools are failing, moving funds out of the school district to finance private schools just exacerbates the problems at the public schools. The answer should be to fix the public schools, not move away from them.

I’ve seen very little evidence that the majority of private schools provide a better education than the public schools (obviously there are some exceptions). When the private schools refuse to allow testing to compare their students against others, you have to wonder about their motivation.

Much of the privatization push is about lining the pockets of the owners of private schools and not about improving education.
