re: #206 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus

A better answer, I propose, is “so what?”

I have billions of organisms living in and on me that are “not my body”.

Bacteria and some fungi. Hopefully no worms.

They all depend upon me for life. They have their own bodies (mostly single celled but the fungi on my skin and nails may be more than single cells.)

And… so what?

Ethical decisions depend upon personhood.

And that is what the radical anti-abortionists refuse to touch. Because they know that a “person” (real, not the legal fictions) is a difficult thing to define unless one accepts that birth plays a role.

and once it’s a ‘person’, its rights and the mother’s rights can conflict.
with neither one being superior to the other. certainly not automatically.

that means questions to be contested, argued, addressed, adjudicated, and not always in favor of the not yet born.
