Seth Meyers: Trump Suggests Delaying the Election Which Would Violate the Constitution but Hey It Never Stopped Him Before

I am trying to think this through (while I should be finishing up a freelance article so I can pay my bills, but an addled brain makes its own path…)

It was no surprise, obviously, that Orangeanus was going to come out at some point and openly say the election should be delayed or cancelled or whatever. And it was no surprise that he’d trigger a barrage of deep-think “here’s why he can’t legally do that” thumbsucking articles among Very Serious Journamalists.

But… why yesterday? Was his calculation that it would be a Big Enough Deal that it would distract attention from Obama at John Lewis’ funeral, and those horrendous economic numbers, and a death toll over 150,000, including Herman Cain, and so on?

Because while he got some attention, it really wasn’t a LOT, in the grand scheme of things. It’s not at the top of the page on the NYT or WaPo or pretty much anywhere else.

And what I don’t know if he was expecting was how quickly and sharply the whole idea would be shot down by the congressional leaders who’d have to approve it if it were (somehow, ludicrously) to happen.

So now he’s shot off that particular weapon, which I have to believe was basically a single shot. Sure, he’ll keep trotting it out during his incontinent late-night tweetfests, but to what end now?

So… why yesterday of all days? Was there some sort of strategy there I missed? Or is he really just that haphazard and impulsive?

(and get better soon, lawhawk!)
