Yeah, you’re right of course. I’m sure it would probably never pass Constitutional muster. Ironically, however, I could also make the case that the citizenship of the productive members of society could become meaningless if the non-productive reach such numbers as to be able to vote to take as much money as they choose from the productive folks.

Not sure what the answer is, so just floated one idea to help me think things through.

There is a quote by somebody, I don’t remember who: Democracy can only last until the public realizes that they can vote themselves other people’s money.
Apparently the same is true for republics.
I’m willing to re-think universal sufferage. Skin color or gender are bad distinctions to make, but that doesn’t mean that there are no good distinctions.
