Greets and saluts from the NYC metro area. Apparently the Miss America contest was held last night and the racists and bigots were out in force after Miss New York won. Oh, and a whole lot of these folks apparently don’t like anyone who has dark skin and has (to them) an odd sounding name. More than a few were pissed that Miss Kansas Theresa Vail didn’t win. She’s got a compelling story, Active Duty Army, has tattoos, and is pretty. Oh, and she’s a white and blonde.

These kinds of things are revelatory about the fact that racism and bigotry are alive and well in the country. Oh, and more than a few people thought that this somehow marked a victory for al Qaeda. Yeah, just read through that collection of twitter postings.

Real sad.

A lot of people have no direction in their lives unless they have something to oppose. Without opposition their lives are literally directionless.

I believe this is because they are lazy and naive. Doing good is hard work and never completely successful. Doing evil is easy, is successful just by intention alone and usually mistaken for good.

I suspect it may be worse in the States because of the Puritan influence. People forget or don’t know that the Puritans, and similar sects, regarded themselves involved in an endless war against Satan. That war has morphed over the centuries so that now the most common version of it is against ‘liberals’ and all those people connected to them in some capricious manner.

It’s easier than thinking.
