I had forgotten what I think I once knew - that Windsor castle is right under the flight path of very nearby Heathrow airport.

No wonder the queen spends most of her time at the other properties. Who wants to hear the roar of jet engines 24/7?

Just watching “QI” the other day - a great British TV quiz show - and it seems that her official residence (as in her mailing address) is St James’ Palace and not Buckingham, Windsor or Balmoral.
