If he closes the border, then shippers will not be able to make just-in-time deliveries to businesses in the USA needing those items. Americans living in Mexico will not be able to drive across the border, a convenience many appreciate. Long story short, Trump would be shooting the USA in the foot by closing the border.

Maybe that’s his plan.
