That’s what I figured. I was in sonar school with some Iranian sailors in 1977. So these Tomcats were over there before the Shah was overthrown. 30 year old fighters, heh.

Yeah, very few of them (if any) can still fly.

My company used to make some spare parts for those birds, and when they were withdrawn from US service, at govt representative came to our facility to personally oversee the destruction of our remaining inventory, as part of an effort to make sure no spare parts ever got to Iran for those planes.
