You’ve never seen him on the stump. He’s one hell of a candidate. There’s a reason he has never lost an election. And Texas is in a lot better shape than many other States because A) most of the workers in industries that have turned south since 2007 were populated by “guest workers” who don’t show up in unemployment numbers and B) he has a bunch of idiots in the Legislature who have kicked the structural deficit down the road for two years with a combination of cuts, smoke, and mirrors without touching the $6 billion left in the Rainy Day Fund.

He is a very calculating Pol, and you underestimate him at your peril.

He must be a good candidate. He’s been elected TX gov THREE times, 2002, 2006, 2010. And he’s a charismatic southern evangelical who’s always been a conservative, so for the gop base he may be preferable to the boring Pawlenty and the “moderate” Romney.
