Moronic Convergence Watch: Pamela Geller and World Net Daily

A match made in wingnut heaven
Wingnuts • Views: 30,922

In a possibly world-threatening Moronic Convergence, Pamela “Shrieking Harpy” Geller has announced that she’ll be writing a regular column for the looniest right wing fake news site on the web, World Net Daily. She’ll be right at home, since Weird Nut Daily is notorious as the prime pusher of the Birther delusion, and home to an extraordinary stable of bigots, white nationalists, theocrats, and paleo-conservative kooks. Not to mention Chuck Norris.

Geller’s first article as a fledgling WND lunatic: PAMELA GELLER, WND: OBAMA GASLIGHTS THE JEWS!!!!

Meanwhile, in Belgium, one of the fascist groups Pamela Geller frequently endorses (she calls them “the Jewish Party!”), Vlaams Belang, is in the news for introducing legislation in the Belgian Senate to grant amnesty to all Belgians who collaborated with the Nazis in World War II: Belgium: Vlaams Belang – Amnesty For Nazi Collaborators.

I love the idea that she thinks of a neo-fascist party as the pro-Jewish one.

I remember arguing in a very long thread where one of the VB apologists actually attempted to defend their campaign of Amnesty for confirmed Nazis. Pam's Eurofascist friends always try to pretend it's not about Nazism, but at its roots it actually is about Nazism.

I just know that, like Harold Camping followers, Pammy Geller is going to somehow latch on even more tightly to the conviction that there must be a Jewish reason for introducing legislation to grant amnesty to Nazi collaborators.

The more proof you throw at morons such as her, the more they believe in their own lies - all because they can never, ever, admit that they were just wrong.

That and they hate anyone who doesn't think as they do.

Taliban chief has disappeared: Afghan intel agency

The Afghan intelligence agency said Monday that the reclusive leader of the Taliban has disappeared from a suspected hideout in Pakistan and has been out of contact with his commanders for days - adding further questions about Mullah Mohammad Omar after a media report said he was killed.

The Taliban denied the claim on the Afghan news channel Tolo that Omar was shot dead while being moved inside Pakistan with the help of a former Pakistani intelligence official.

I agree to some extent with Prime Minister Netanyahu that the 1967 armistice border of Israel is, if not "indefensible," then hard to defend. That's why President Obama included the "land swaps" language. But I've seen a lot of the wingnut gang (including Wingnut Geller in her maiden WND article) calling them the "auschwitz borders", which is ridiculous. Is this term a new monicker, or has it been around for a while?

Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad suffered a heart attack while visiting the U.S. and is recovering at a Texas hospital, a spokesman said Monday.

Fayyad, who was born in 1952, was in Austin to attend the college graduation of his son, Khaled, when he felt strong chest pains Sunday, said the prime minister's spokesman, Jamal Zakout.

Fayyad, a heavy smoker, underwent tests showing a blockage in a coronary artery, Zakout said. Fayyad suffered a heart attack while at the Seton Medical Center in Austin, the spokesman said.

Nope, they idolize some of the Nazi collaborators since they are also Flemish heroes. Remember their first goal is tribal nationalism and separation from the French. Even going back to WWI one of their oft told grievances involves Flemish soldiers and French officers. So they have heroes like Cyriel Verschaeve who they want pardoned. There also is a club, St. Maartensfonds, where they meet and gather money for the exiles who actually still are living in Argentina and other places. (They've stopped the meetings the past few years though, too much heat around them for some reason....*cough*) They have also used the agitprop myths and tales of mistreatment of collaborators so long within their political groups that it's become and ingrained, irremovable plank.

It's funny, really. One of the occupational tactics of the Nazis in Europe was to foster tribal nationalism, like playing off Walloons and Flemish against one another and both against the French. Ultimately, the only ones this ever worked in favor of were the Nazis, though.

Newt's also said his record is off the table, unless it's something flattering about him...then it deserves attention. But he says the little things (like shutting down the US government) he won't address because they're irrelevant (and they make him look bad).

I don't think women should have to plan on being raped...or plan on being impregnated by rape. The Handmaid's Tale is supposed to be fiction. Assholes like this guy would make it a training manual.

I don't plan on being hit by a car, or mauled by a pit bull, either, but if these things should happen to me, I would like to think that my insurance policy would not turn out to have banned treating me unless I had special 'car crash' or 'pit bull' insurance.

My point is that this guy is deliberately voting to ban insurance companies from offering abortion services under general policies, making 'planning ahead' for catastrophe--one reason people have health insurance at all-- that much harder and more expensive.

So in his analogy, it's like, "You can get Triple-A, but they've been prohibited by law from helping you if you have engine trouble, unless, of course, you purchase the special engine trouble insurance. But we must plan ahead, mustn't we? And pay extra for something I will never need. Tee hee."

Fuckin' self-righteous eejit.

He's saying the big theme for his Presidential campaign is "Truth".

And starts it off in his opening announcement with more than half a dozen half-truths, exaggerations, and outright lies.

FACT CHECK: Not the whole truth in Pawlenty claims

Way to hit the ground running there, champ.

Why Republicans can't find a decent presidential candidate

Distressed Republicans, dissatisfied with the runners who are in or approaching the starting line, are publicly pining for another choice. By post time, the GOP may have a decalogue-worth of dropouts who have no wish to replicate Abraham Lincoln’s description of the man who was asked how it felt to be tarred and feathered and ridden out of town on a rail. "If it weren’t for the honor of the thing," Lincoln quoted him as saying, "I’d rather have walked."

Fox News' Roger Ailes, the GOP's strategic guru from Richard Nixon to the first Bush (George H.W.), has been actively if unsuccessfully recruiting. The neo-con editor of The Weekly Standard, Bill Kristol, reacted to Daniels' decision with the establishment's standard lamentation: "[T]he current field…doesn't exactly represent an overflowing of political talent."

There must be someone else. But there's the rub. As the old political saw has it, who the hell else they got – that is, who's willing to be gotten?

None of the renunciators will reconsider. Bet on that – unless the economy craters or Obama nosedives. Even then, no late entry in modern times has prevailed in either party. There's too much money needed; there's too much Iowa to organize, too much New Hampshire to stroke; and there are too many careful calculations of long-term self interest. In any event, party rules make it impossible to barge into the primary process halfway through.

So who's left to jump into this shallow tank by mid-summer, or at the outer edge of practicality by mid-September?

101 Slumbering Behemoth Stinks  Mon, May 23, 2011 3:01:58pm

Yeah, maybe.

But in other political circles (state offices) there is a long history of a candidate running once for an office knowing he or she is likely to lose, just so they can build a base and organization for a second run. I can see that working here if the GOP candidate runs a good race and stays on message. That would give that person a big head start for 2016.

Obviously, that doesn't work if the candidate beclowns himself (or herself) in 2012. Then they get png status. And those candidates that inspire really intense reactions, pro and con, are probably not suited to that approach, as they don't wear well over time. But TPaw, for example, might actually be the kind of GOP candidate that grows on the electorate if he runs a safe, sane and stable candidacy.

Just theorizing.

Is Rick Santorum inspired by P.T. Barnum?

Here's a small sample of "Rickisms":

•Most famously, Santorum has equated homosexuality to adultery, bigamy, incest, child molestation, and zoophilia, notably coining the phrase, "man-on-dog" sex.

•Santorum has stated "the right to privacy does not exist in the U.S. Constitution," inferred by some to mean there are few if any limits on government to regulate private sexual behavior.

•Santorum has attributed problems with Social Security to abortion: "The reason Social Security is in big trouble is we don't have enough workers to support the retirees. A third of all the young people in America are not in America today because of abortion, because one in three pregnancies end [sic] in abortion."

•Santorum has blamed the Catholic Church's sex scandal on "moral relativism," a sick Boston lifestyle, and "cultural liberalism."

•Santorum has compared abortion to slavery, adding that comparing the two was nothing new and he wouldn't apologize.

•Most recently, Santorum stated that Sen. John McCain, who underwent horrendous torture in Vietnam, couldn't understand why torture was necessary in the fight against al-Qaida: "McCain doesn't understand how enhanced interrogation works. I mean, you break somebody, and after they're broken, they become cooperative."

So the former senator and wannabe president has broken just about all the rules. Yet although not quite thriving — his polls are still wobbly — he is doing just fine. In the inchoate mess that is the present GOP field, he is holding his own and then some. So what gives? By every political convention, Santorum should be stone cold dead right now.

But he's not; he understands what others fail to grasp — that the GOP presidential nomination fight has become not just great political theater but a genuine three-ring circus. And who better to look to for advice about running a circus than the great circus master himself, P.T. Barnum. Better known for his work with carnivals, sideshows and assorted hoaxes, Barnum was also a politician. He served in the Connecticut Legislature for two terms, was mayor of Bridgeport, and ran for Congress.

Barnum, in short, is the perfect role model for anyone running for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination. Santorum, of the odd dozen GOP aspirants, is the first to figure this out. That explains the otherwise inexplicable — why he talks and acts as he does.

The conclusion is inescapable. Santorum has discovered Barnum's secret — that the public loves a show and that one can say almost anything and someone will believe it.

Absolutely agree. I think that the John McCain of 2000 was a good man and a fairly moderate politician and would have made a pretty good President. Since then, he has tacked hard right because he thought he had to, and it has been sad to watch.

I still think he is a great patriot and I admire him (and his service to this country should never be forgotten), but I no longer think he would make a good President. I think he got away from what he believes to the point where he may not know what that is anymore.

126 dragonfire1981  Mon, May 23, 2011 3:32:22pm

The problem with the GOP field, aside from the obvious disconnect with average Americans, is the fact that Obama has more charisma in his little toe than these guys do.

They are just lame, boring white guys with some pretty extreme views. George W Bush may not have been an intellectual champion but he did have charisma. Bill Clinton got elected not only because his message clicked, but because he was viewed as more likable than George Bush Sr. Even Reagan owed a lot of his popularity to the presence he developed form his acting days.

Candidates have to be able to click with voters on more than just policy and beliefs, they have to be likable. I don't see that at ALL in the current GOP field. Donald Trump would have brought that to an extent and so will Sarah Palin if she decides to run. Unfortunately in Palin's case people are so tired of her she'll be dead in the water, but I guarantee you an Obama/Palin debate would likely draw more attention than an Obama/Gingrich or Obama/Pawlenty debate.

Strauss-Kahn DNA Matches Semen on Maid's Shirt

Tests found a match between a DNA sample submitted by former International Monetary Fund director Dominique Strauss-Kahn and semen found on the shirt of the hotel maid who told police she had been sexually assaulted by Mr. Strauss-Kahn, law-enforcement officials said.

Benjamin Brafman, one of Mr. Strauss-Kahn's attorneys, declined to comment when told of the DNA test results.

The French economist and presidential hopeful was indicted Thursday for sexual assault and attempted rape.

He submitted to the DNA test after his arrest. Lawyers for Mr. Strauss-Kahn have said in court that there is no evidence of a forced sexual encounter.

Republicans ignored warnings on Paul Ryan plan

GOP pollsters, political consultants and House and NRCC staffers vividly reminded leadership that their members were being forced to walk the plank for a piece of quixotic legislation. They described for leadership the horrors that might be visited on the party during the next campaign, comparing it time and again with former Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision to ram through a cap-and-trade bill despite the risks it posed to Democratic incumbents.

“The tea party itch has definitely not been scratched, so the voices who were saying, ‘Let’s do this in a way that’s politically survivable,’ got drowned out by a kind of panic,” a top GOP consultant involved in the debate said, on condition of anonymity.

Well, for the sake of keeping a divided house, it would be good if you were right...lord knows the Democrats can't get shit passed with a supermajority of their own...the threat of a 38 vote filibuster would send them scurrying to the shadows.

Those are for the trolls. They can't help but link themselves back to their cesspools of the internet...and Charles gets paid every time one of them clicks. Most of us probably filter the ads out and never click.

He's praised Obama effusively in writing and acknowledged AGW. He might as well be an actual equine as far as getting the nomination goes.

Yes that would be a problem I suppose. And as KT mentioned, he has expressed support for the Ryan budget. I think he will ease off that a bit with qualifiers, if he actually decides to declare.
Its early, and I still think all in all, he is the sanest and most electable, if he could make it out of the primary. Admittedly that is a big IF!

Supporting the Ryan budget is probably a wash as far as the nomination goes, but it's going to be pure poison in the general election. Like Romney, Huntsman's also a mormon, and that's going to hurt him severely with the evangelicals.

I don't actually think that endorsing Paul Ryan's budget will end up hurting Republicans, whoever they may be, in the general election. I definitely don't think that the Ryan budget will be viewed as a millstone in elections to come. I fear for the future of the USA because of this, but I really don't think this vile, cowardly budget will end up being a negative.

I agree to some extent with Prime Minister Netanyahu that the 1967 armistice border of Israel is, if not "indefensible," then hard to defend. That's why President Obama included the "land swaps" language. But I've seen a lot of the wingnut gang (including Wingnut Geller in her maiden WND article) calling them the "auschwitz borders", which is ridiculous. re: #22 SanFranciscoZionist

Is there some damn way to google things so you can exclude all the insane wingnut sites? I'm looking for information on Cynthia McKinney's twirl on Iranian TV--this was before the Libyan TV adventure--and I'm having to wade through piles of Weasel Zippers and WND, and even COMMENTARY.

Copying & pasting the query below should get rid of the worst of the wingnut sites, just substitute your search terms for the bolded text. You can add/delete sites as you wish. I'm not sure what the character limit is on Google queries (if there even is one).

cynthia mckinney iranian tv -site:wnd.com -site:weaselzippers.us -site:drudgereport.com -site:commentarymagazine.com -site:pajamasmedia.com -site:rightnetwork.com -site:frontpagemag.com -site:breitbart.com -site:breitbart.tv -site:biggovernment.com -site:bigjournalism.com -site:bigpeace.com -site:newsrealblog.com -site:discoverthenetworks.org -site:danielpipes.org -site:atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com -site:jihadwatch.org -site:americanthinker.com -site:rsmccain.blogspot.com

Note: Using the top-level domain will filter out ALL sub-domains. For example, using -site:rightnetwork.com filters out rightnetwork.com as well as the subdomain gatewaypundit.rightnetwork.com. By the same token, using -site:blogspot.com would filter out ALL blogs hosted on blogspot.com—i.e. if you only want to filter out R.S. McCain's site, then you should use -site:rsmccain.blogspot.com.

Correction:

Note: Using the top-level domain name will filter out ALL sub-domains.

I should've just said domain name or second-level domain as top-level domain technically refers to just the part to the right of the last dot, such as com net, us, etc.

org - top-level or root domain

wikipedia.org - commonly referred to as the domain name, the "wikipedia" part is technically a second-level domain (a subdomain of .org)

en.wikipedia.org - commonly referred to as a subdomain or vanity domain, the "en" is technically a third-level domain (and also subdomain of .org, or a subdomain of the wikipedia subdomain of the top-level org domain)

Nice. Got a bunch of seedlings over the weekend, and came home today from work to find that the squirrels decided to dig up the basil, cilantro, arugula, peppers and tomatoes.

Wasn't too bad though. Don't have enough to really go nuts over - and I could always pick up more seedlings... only the strong survive...

Set aside the question of race, there's the question of health. I just don't think Republicans are going to accept a man who, in 2006, was diagnosed and treated for stage IV colon and liver cancer. (Treatment: surgery and chemo). He's beat the odds getting to five years. He's asking people to believe he'll be one of the 10% who make it to ten years.

I think this, more than race, was what hurt him in his Georgia Senate run in 2010.

well, he's probably a republican, take it from there

There's a wonderful essay out there--I must find it again--by a guy who grew up in a very devout Evangelical family of some sort.

When he was a kid, they went to church a minimum of three times a week, and on at least one of those occasions, when he was a teenager, the pastor was sure to preach against KISS. Apparently he had a real thing about KISS. Knights In Satan's Service!!

Kid went off to college--this was in the days when kids from super-devout families went to real colleges--and found that his roommate was a passionate KISS fan.

He asked for a room change on religious grounds, and they wouldn't give him one. It was a difficult semester.

It was a GREAT essay.

He refers to them at the end as "lipstick wearing, high-heel stomping, Beth-loving demons".

WND make the Weekly World News seem reputable.

In the name of full disclosure, I've mentioned a few times that I wrote for WWN back in the day. One of my favorite stories (not my work, alas) alleged that a UFO with a Confederate flag on the bottom had buzzed a bullfight in Mexico and played Dixie as it flew past. You could keep conspira-kooks busy for years with that.
There was also a whole series of stories about WW2 planes being found in some really unusual places, a TBM Avenger in Earth orbit, a B-26 Marauder on the Moon, and a B-29 on Mars. Note that the planes with greater range were found farther away, meaning that the author must have known some little something about aviation.
WWN billed itself as "the world's only reliable newspaper," while I called it "the most trusted name in major media."
