Add in the poor education of civics, and civility that should come with it, and it becomes harder and harder to find any sort of a national thinking that can keep people in line and on target.

Look at how many people only just realized this year that they do not understand the party primary nominating process. And how many people do not understand separation of powers or what rights are truly guaranteed by the Constitution and which are not covered.
