That was a really good segment. Should be shown on every newscast and show.
I was reading something Pepe’s creator wrote, he’s wistfully thinking that somewhere somehow people will recognize that it’s “just a meme” and that somehow Pepe will become rehabilitated and return to being just a funny frog. I hate to disillusion him, but that’s never going to happen this century.
re: #2 Thanos
He thinks it’s “just a phase.” When I read that interview I was incredibly disappointed that this guy is so blasé about his creation being co-opted by white supremacists. I could never be like that, and I thought his reaction was actually a pretty shameful example of white privilege. It doesn’t affect him, so he just shrugs and goes on with his life. That really sucks.

I have been watching most all day today and seeing actual journalism happen. Trump spox aren’t getting away with any of their bullshit and diversionary tricks. Lies are being confronted and called lies without euphemism. If CNN has gotten me to watch, I should think it has captured the attention of many others as well and is thus being rewarded.

Yeah, no chance of finding something affordable in Manhattan. Maybe Queens, or across the Hudson in NJ. I love NY and LI, my hometowns, but there’s no way I could afford to live there now.

Expect either a very tiny apt or a larger one with roommates. If you have family in the area, that would help. If you don’t mind being a commuter, you can find somewhat affordable and decent places in N NJ and LI.

My friend Roger played the drunk who got rolled outside Fat Moe’s bar in Leone’s Once Upon A Time In America and just the other day was extolling what a great gig that was. He was signed for two days of shooting and he got along so well with maestro Leone that he got paid for three months for just hanging around the set, two months of which was in Montreal and Roger swears he never set foot in Canada! He also says that he’s worked with everyone from Mike Nichols to Susan Stroman (to rave reviews I should add) and Leone was the nicest of them all.

Maybe David Malpass. According to this Time profile of Trump’s economic team he’s the only one with the job-description ‘economist’.
Malpass worked as a high-ranking Treasury department official in the Ronald Reagan and H.W. Bush administrations. He was the chief economist at Bear Stearns, the New York investment bank that collapsed in 2008 and contributed to the recession. Malpass currently runs a consulting firm focused on global economic and political trends.

Nah, no need to baste. Stick some classic herbs under the skin and then slather the skin over the whole bird with olive oil. Give it a blast for 10 - 15 minutes at 450 then back off to 350 for the duration based on the weight of the bird. I like stuffing but if you don’t, take a couple of oranges, quarter them, and bake it with them in the body cavity.
North Carolina woman stores her mother’s body in a freezer, sells the freezer at a yard sale for $30 to a neighbor, and tells the buyer not to open the freezer until church members come to collect the contents. Time passes, and no one comes, so the neighbor breaks the seals and finds the lady’s mum inside, calls the cops. Police find the original owner after a long hunt.
It’s like a cop show teleplay.

By someone smarter and more well spoken than trump. If this isn’t tamped down now, the future of the US is bleak.
You can’t remove 25+ years of propaganda and brainwashing that the right wing media has spewed to the point that righties see Libtards as unpatriotic and dangerous.
You can’t remove die hard racists, homophobes, etc. easily; not without a bunch of old ones dying off and young ones being marginalized.
This election needs to marginalize those assholes. And right now, this does not look to be happening.
Taking a short break from drawing my latest thing to rest my hand. Reading ‘Watchmen’. So far it’s almost the same as Zac Snyder’s film, frame for panel. Up to the part forshadowing the Rorschach breakout. Apparently it changes up about here.

re: #205 MsJ

Quite the opposite: their statements are being treated as if they had some merit and were worthy of discussion or somehow comparable to statements “from the left”.
this part is scathing:
what is impossible to comprehend is how Trump becomes the beneficiary of her slide. The Republican nominee is, by far, the most dishonest, least transparent candidate to ever run for president. The health records he has revealed are a joke. He continues to withhold his tax returns. His business dealings are, at best, shady. And we now know that his much touted “charitable giving” is a scam—since many of the donations he claimed to have made were more often than not contributions that others funneled through him.
Given Trump’s record of dishonesty, his appeals to bigotry, the contradictory nature of the positions he has taken on critical issues, and his lack of experience in governance, how can one reasonably explain the fact that none of this seems to matter to the 42 or so percent of the electorate who say they would choose him as president over a person, who for all her flaws is without a doubt the most qualified candidate in the field.

Once there, you can get your thoughts put in concrete because there is always someone to support those thoughts and it takes away any of that marginalization.
Add in the poor education of civics, and civility that should come with it, and it becomes harder and harder to find any sort of a national thinking that can keep people in line and on target.

For me, Stewart wasn’t a good fit - he played George as more ironic than angry, and Ruehl seemed to be trolling for sympathy with Martha. David Frum urges a Republican party that is culturally modern, economically inclusive, and environmentally responsible - a party that can meet the challenges of the Obama years and lead a diverse America to a new age of freedom and prosperity.
Good luck with that, David.
If Frum wanted that kind of Republican party Fox news and Rightwing Radio would have had to be killed in their cribs not encouraged by Frum and others. That ship had long sailed by the time Obama was elected.

Trump Plays Press Like A Fiddle In Birther Bluff… Spins Racist Conspiracy Into Promotional Circus… Campaign Pads Pockets Of Trump Empire… Cable News: ‘We Just Got Played’… ‘Political Rick-Roll’… Anchors Fume… Birther Bonanza Still Burning?...
I try to avoid seeing/hearing the yam, but every time I do, I’m astounded that people can stand it for more than a minute or two at a time. Putting aside the nonsense/lying factor, his whiny voice and sneering expression, inability to form a coherent sentence, and the constant self-aggrandizing is so obnoxious.

OMG! That’s amazing! What size paper is that? The minute negative spaces seem impossible!
You should be talking to her, but she is working at a greenhouse today. 12 x 18 I think. And about that thirsty paper? Big no no here.
Don’t know if this kind of thing will work but I give Bernie some credit for trying.
On the way into this Akron rally, Bernie saw half a dozen “Bernie or Bust” protesters outside and invited them in to talk it out.

Those two sequences of warped bricking to the right of the ‘vulture’s beak’ (it’s what I see anyway) melding together is utterly infuriating to me.
It’s art-deco and tribal mixed up in something that has a central study, but no ultimate form.
My stuff is still very derivative. The detail mostly muffles that particular criticism.
Totally awestruck.

I don’t know. The electorate seems to crave WWE, Jersey Shore, Bachelor, Whatever With The Stars, etc. as real life.
Honestly, I have nothing. I feel like I’m in uncharted waters without a compass.
There used to be something of a barrier between entertainment and politics. Even those entertainers who became politicians (Jesse ventura, Ronald Reagan, Arnold Scwarzenegger, etc) understood the very important differences between the two.
But Trump? Trump took the barrier, blew it into a million tiny pieces, ground up the pieces and pissed all over the dust.
re: #232 Alyosha
One more.
I really love the skeleton relics that many Catholic churches in the middle ages around Europe appointed in gold and jewels.
It’s a nice demonstration of the wealth disparity between the Church and laymen. Also an interesting expression of the memento mori theme.[Embedded content]

Also has a Danse Macabre vibe to it too.

Don’t forget Al Franken. He completely left his comedy behind him when he took office, though lately I’ve seem him slip a little.

So much time.
The only pen I use religiously is the Mitsubishi uni-ball. I use basic sketch paper because water-colour paper tends to be a bit thirsty.
Have you tried Bristol board? Might be better because it is thick, has a nice finish and is enduring.
If not familiar with it, here is wiki on it. Very popular and available at most art supply houses, Amazon, Blick, etc.
Good stuff. Show us more if you want. I love good pen and ink drawing. Used to do some myself back in art college. I hope some day to get back into painting and drawing and get out of the commercial graphics…but money is needed still. And time. Plus I like writing songs and playing music too. So much to do, so little time.

Nah, no need to baste. Stick some classic herbs under the skin and then slather the skin over the whole bird with olive oil. Give it a blast for 10 - 15 minutes at 450 then back off to 350 for the duration based on the weight of the bird. I like stuffing but if you don’t, take a couple of oranges, quarter them, and bake it with them in the body cavity.
and spatchcock.
re: #256 ObserverArt
I think my drive to draw, and to a lesser extent, to write, comes from a deep insecurity that I am unable to write or play music.
I’m thinking of branching out into painting. It’s gotta be less stressful than controlled, painstaking lines of ink.

I have a nice roasting pan I want to actually use to …roast a bird, so I think I’m going traditional this time.
But I am aware of the technique and will be giving it a try in the future.

Never be hard on yourself…it stops the creative process. Your drawings are fine.
Remember…a good artist is never happy with anything. That is what keeps the drive. That is also what drives artists nuts. It is The Artist Curse.
Anyone creative will understand. It is one reason I always keep what a person creates separate from the person. There have been a lot of extremely imperfect humans creating amazing art.
re: #257 Great White Snark
Nice orchid shots. I’m in Kauai for the week with my wife and as we were walking around Hanalei yesterday I whacked my head on a bunch of orchids hanging off the side of a tree. I love them when they’re just living in the wild like that.
Shorter Robert Gates: Trump sucks, but both sides.
What a fucking hypocrite he is, he was still Secretary of Defense when the United States started bombing Libya.
And, according to Wikipedia:
Time magazine notes that Gates and U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have “forged a formidable partnership”, speaking frequently, “comparing notes before they go to the White House”, meeting with each other weekly and having lunch once a month at either the Pentagon or the State Department.[58]

Never has, but she has sold a few.
She should!
Maybe have her try a local group show at a small gallery or a store front/shop type gallery and see what happens. I’m thinking people would like her creations.
Edit to add…meant to say the same to you too Alyosha. Get those drawings in a nice matt and frame and go for it!

I’ve used the solid apple earbuds. They don’t fall out of my ears…my ears eject them every few minutes because they do hurt like hell. I prefer the ones with the little rubber dildo ends on them or just streaming through a jambox or JBL.

And, according to Wikipedia:
He had some pretty sharp words for the Obama admin in the lead-up to Libya; I had the impression at the time that Obama/Clinton were considering committing ground troops and Gates said he would resign if they did.

I don’t know. When my company gave me an iPad mini it came with the torture buds. I used them for five minutes on my phone to see if they were better than the rubber dildo tips I got at the drug store for $5…they weren’t. So it’s dildos for me when I listen to music at work.

I picked up a Sony SRS-XB3 box with phone support when the went on sale at Best Buy- what’s nice with this critter is you can buy another one and pair them up together, plus they have a pretty long lifetime on a charge.

When I was a kid, I used to read Western Horseman magazine. There was an article about someone who wanted to breed an Appaloosa and a Pinto to see what they would get. They got twins, one of each. Pretty unusual in horses.
That’s not them.

$19.95. They sound like $300 units, pretty much, and the small earpieces are the only ones I’ve ever found that will sorta-kinda fit in my ears.
The stress-relief where the cables go into the earbuds will keep the wires inside from breaking in a month or so like the cheap headphones I had been getting. But…for some unknown reason they have a hard plastic sleeve around the middle of the left one, and that’s where the wires break. Tape up your first pair, like I did my second.

I don’t agree with the conclusions of this author. I think Hillary Clinton and Rachel Maddow shining a light on these people did the nation a service. They have been hiding in the shadows far too long. We have seen their handy work with encouraging mass shootings and online harassment of women. I don’t care if they are motivated by white supremacy or do it just for the “lulz” the end result is the same. People are getting hurt and its enabling fascism.
