I saw a formulation of tolerance yesterday that went something like: Tolerance isn’t a moral stance, it’s a peace treaty. It’s how a diverse society gets along with a minimum of friction. If one side breaks the treaty the other side is under no obligation to continue respecting it, rather, the obligation is to bring to peace breakers to account.
