James Fields Charged With Murder in #Charlottesville Terrorism; Right Wing Bloggers Identified Wrong Person

Right wing terrorism and lies

In Charlottesville, Virginia, James Alex Fields, Jr. has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly driving at full speed into a crowd of counter-protesters at yesterday’s neo-Nazi rally.

Earlier in the day, Fields was photographed numerous times with the Nazi crowd, holding one of their absurd shields emblazoned with fascist symbols. His Facebook page (now removed) shows that he was infatuated with Nazism — and with Donald Trump.

Clearly and simply, this was a deliberate terrorist attack, injuring many and claiming the life of 32-year old Heather Heyer.

But as we’ve observed many, many times before, right wing bloggers immediately began pushing out invented stories that the perpetrator was actually a leftist.

For example, the Stupidest Man on the Internet, Jim Hoft, who immediately seized on a random tweet and named someone who had nothing to do with the attack:

White supremacist Rage Furby Chuck C. Johnson also immediately jumped out there and smeared the same unrelated person:

Needless to say, this has now become gospel truth among large segments of the right, and you can easily find them repeating it endlessly on Twitter and Facebook — even though Hoft and Johnson have both deleted their libelous false posts by now.

And this is why these dishonest bloggers do it: because they know their lies will instantly spread throughout the right wing echo chamber and become alternative facts, impervious to rebuttal.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s favorite conspiracy theorist, Alex Jones, is already screaming that the “riots” in Charlottesville were “staged” in order to “bring in martial law” and ban “conservative gatherings.”

It’s very revealing that Jones considers an outright neo-Nazi rally to be a “conservative gathering.”

Like previous instances of radical white terrorism, this truly fake news will be taken forward as gospel by the Stormfront crowd. They’ll insist that the initial identification was correct, that Fields is being treated as a fall guy (if not a paid actor), and the whole thing is an example of the gov’t altering the story to fit a narrative.

It also proved what I always suspected about Trump — that he is incapable of staging his own Reichstag Fire as a power grab.

To do so requires uniting more than his base of white supremacists, neo-Nazis and deranged folk. He flunked what would have been a passable test for any other Republican… even the batshit crazies like Rudy.

What happened last night was THE defining moment of Trump’s occupation of the White House. His disconnect from reality, regardless of who wrote that drivel, is Trump at his core… a heartless orge who only cares about wealth and power, regardless of the illegal ways he fraudulently seized power.

But last night also calcified the (very correct) analysis that Trump is a supporter of white supremacists and Nazism, if not one himself. This is something that every elected Republican knows will be hung on their necks like a millstone until next November, and that was already being shown on Twitter last night.

Watch as an already dysfunctional political party cracks up under the pressure.

I’m going to repeat this from downstairs. These people will kill you. Be prepared to defend yourself and your loved ones:

I firmly believe that every American opposed to these swine should visit their local gunshop and buy whatever handgun or rifle is within their means. Perhaps that is only a Hi-Point 9mm pistol but it will still defend that person and their loved ones from a Nazi expecting “liberals” & minorities to be unarmed and helpless. Revolvers, lever action rifles and pump action shotguns are all good because they’re easy to use and are jury friendly. They’re the guns cowboys and pre-militarized cops (Adam-12 anyone?) used.

Don’t spend too much on a defense weapon - the cops will confiscate it if you need to use it even if you are in the right.

There is a silver lining to this pile of steaming shit: people are starting to take sides, to stop rationalizing “alt-right” or “white supremacist” as just voices on the political spectrum, they are finally waking up to the threat that modern-day fascism poses to American values.

Don’t forget that’s what Bleeding Kansas was too. It led, inexorably, to Ft. Sumter & the second bloodiest war (WWII did have more dead & wounded) in our history. Unfortunately yesterday was more like November 21, 1855 than not.

An anti-fascist protester was killed. At least driving a car into a mass of protesters is not something they can pawn off as “self defense” or “stand your ground”.

Failing that, they went for blatant mis-identification.

And they are starting to associate the Republicans with it too.

Something is up with Republicans…at least I note a small change in Ohio Republicans. There is a local NBC political show here in Ohio’s Capital city that is on a half-hour prior to Meat The Chuck.

They always have a local Democratic spokesperson and a Republican spokesperson, and I heard a lot of “we need cooperation with both sides of the Ohio house and in DC” and “we are willing to work with Democrats” and blah this blah that ‘we are all working together” crap.

That is new. I’m thinking all of a sudden something hit the Ohio Republican party upside the head and they are starting to get a feeling that 2018 is not going to be kind to them.

Usually the GOP person they have on is strident and boastful about their control. None of that today. That seems a swift turn. Polling must not be looking too good, so NOW they are going to act like they want to work with Democrats to look good for an election. It’s BS.

Trump had the opportunity last night to revive that image that the media spent so much time last year spinning up of him as this guy who’s “unafraid to call it like he sees it” and “doesn’t mince words” like some D.C. politician. Yet when the opportunity came, he dropped a standard “Both Sides” statement and then ran from the press.

I think you misread the nature of the modern GOP. They are not going to reject the support of white supremacists and Nazis. That is now their base. Those are the most vocal activists. The “Freedom Caucus” is explicitly about white racial hate.

They will bear no electoral consequences. For any of this.

They are in safe gerrymandered Congressional districts. And this outrage will go down the memory hole, just like all the other ones.

It’s long past Passover, but the latest effusions from Donald Trump bring to mind the question that begins that ritual: “Why is this president different from all other presidents?”

Would any past president have not understood the need to read the collection of racists, neo-Nazis, anti-Semites and the euphemistically labeled “white nationalists” out of the company of decent men and women, rather than make morally bankrupt talk of violence “on many sides” and dog-whistling about the need to “cherish our history”? Would any past president have compounded the felony with a dismissive, clumsy tweet? (“Condolences to the family of the young woman killed today, and best regards to all of those injured, in Charlottesville, Virginia. So sad!”)

Yes, that’s why I pointed out that date. A Free-Stater named Charles Dow was the first casualty of the conflict when he was shot & killed by a pro-slavery settler. Just like 32-year old Heather Heyer was the first killed this time.

This is the price we pay for not using the Act of Proscription 1746 (the English response to the Jacobite Rising of 1745) as our model of dealing with the traitors in the confederacy.

After the transcript of his phone call with the President of Mexico and his whiny “don’t make me look bad because I have a big mouth and said Mexico would pay for The Wall” plea; any suggestion Trump is tough is gone.

Sooner or later they are going to lock him up in the oval office and only release recorded statements and videos showing him alive. He is an anchor around a lot of necks. They will try to control him completely to shut him up and see if they can hold on.

BLM and leftist can attack republican/conservative demonstrators using clubs, mace, signs, with 6-10 of them beating up on 1 of our guys and nobody says anything, they can burn cars, break windows, destroy property but nobody says anything, but when it happens to some of their people there’s a holy rage against our side because we used violence against them. If the left want a war they got it, quit your crying and man up!

His parents more than likely are just as bad or worse.
My family came out of Poland in the 1930’s to escape these same evil types.
When they moved west from New York City to Texas they ran into some of the same crap in a city near Houston so they moved to the Dallas area.

Don’t forget that’s what Bleeding Kansas was too. It led, inexorably, to Ft. Sumter & the second bloodiest war (WWII did have more dead & wounded) in our history. Unfortunately yesterday was more like November 21, 1855 than not.

Yesterday seems more like what would have been a day after James Earl Chaney, Andrew Goodman and Michael Henry Schwerner were killed.

Good thread. It’s important to remember that by what Christians are supposed to believe (presuming we trust in god’s word) is that God is not a democrat, republican, socialist, Nazi, commie, etc. Instead God is beyond our petty concerns and interested instead in showing us the way to live in the light, to live in love & to show us the meaning of grace. This is something that can be seen by how the Golden Rule is found all over the globe in multitudes of traditions & religions. We may not all agree on how to define God but we all know the real way to truly serve God…

Do onto others as you would have them do onto you.

This a unilateral moral commitment to the well-being of the other without the expectation of anything in return. Those without empathy can not understand that.

You don’t clearly loudly vociferously denounce racism and bigotry you are a racist and a bigot.

No nuance. This is the easiest “you’re with us or you’re one of them” situations

Trump’s a bigot. You support him you’re a bigot. Simple

He’s doing it to himself
First he was just incompetent
Then he was a woman grabber
Now he’s a bigot

“Party of trump”

Republicans will have a very difficult time denouncing bigotry because they have been running on dog-whistled bigotry ever since the civil rights realignment (i.e., Southern strategy etc.).

Now we get to see how many Republicans are comfortable with Nazi brownshirt levels of expression of bigotry.

“Identity Politics” - for the Left, it means all those groups long denied a voice, marginalized, made to feel inferior get treated fairly.

For the Right, it means all those groups long denied a voice, marginalized, and made to feel inferior are still denied a voice, marginalized, and made to feel inferior.

Racial profiling is the Right’s idea of Identity Politics. The Muslim Ban is the Right’s idea of Identity Politics. Mass deportation is the Right’s idea of Identity Politics. Voter suppression is the Right’s idea of Identity Politics. Stop and Frisk is the Right’s idea of Identity Politics.

So, yeah, fuck THAT identity politics. But the one where we stop treating Americans like shit because their identity is other than straight, white, Christian, and male? Nah. we need to keep at that a while.

Greetings from Bruges. It’s been a crazy past few weeks here for me but I see the home front is even more so. I’ve been thinking about authoritarianism from the minute I saw the remains of the Berghof a few weeks ago to learning about the impact of Nazism in the Netherlands. We told ourselves it wouldn’t happen here because well we defeated the Nazis and we did and we also had returning black servicemen lynched.

Happy is here! Let’s get Happy!

re: #157 Blind Frog Belly White

I was called intolerant for saying “Fuck Robert E Lee. He chose the side of treason, of white supremacy, of treating fellow Americans like livestock.”

So, now I guess we’re intolerant for not tolerating treason.

excerpt of an essay I found the other day

extranewsfeed.com

“Tolerance is not a moral absolute; it is a peace treaty. Tolerance is a social norm because it allows different people to live side-by-side without being at each other’s throats. It means that we accept that people may be different from us, in their customs, in their behavior, in their dress, in their sex lives, and that if this doesn’t directly affect our lives, it is none of our business.

But the model of a peace treaty differs from the model of a moral precept in one simple way: the protection of a peace treaty only extends to those willing to abide by its terms. It is an agreement to live in peace, not an agreement to be peaceful no matter the conduct of others. A peace treaty is not a suicide pact.”

Just because I ask questions does not make me a troll.

Damn.

The fact that he was a part of the Charlottesville demonstration makes him by nature part of a larger group.

The fact that as part of that group he decided to use his car as a weapon is proof that the larger group is dangerous.

I saw a formulation of tolerance yesterday that went something like: Tolerance isn’t a moral stance, it’s a peace treaty. It’s how a diverse society gets along with a minimum of friction. If one side breaks the treaty the other side is under no obligation to continue respecting it, rather, the obligation is to bring to peace breakers to account.

The Illitch family, which owns the Tigers and the Red Wings are strong supporters of liberal causes.

As a trademark owner, they have a responsibility to make sure that others don’t appropriate it, or else they may lose their own protection. It’s not about making more money by suing these fascist infringers.

re: #268 klys (maker of Silmarils)

Tiki torches™ issues a stronger statement against hate and intolerance than Trump.

And that was entirely predictable.

Both side-ism strikes again. One side - Democrats won the popular election and now fights because supporters for the guy who lost the primaries are demanding to be the voice for the party that he didn’t even belong to.

GOPers who had the ability to shut down Trump when he went full metal bigot/white supremacist/misogynist during the campaign refused to do so. They went limp-wristed mealy-mouthed moral equivalency bullshit mode. They refused to stand up to the bigot brigade.

They still do.

Because the bigot brigade and Trump represents the core GOP that has been the core since the CRA/VRA were enacted and which the GOP has exploited for decades. The Southern Strategy is duly named precisely for who/what/why they GOP pursued - to get the right sort of people to buy the baffling BS the GOP was selling.

And the GOP found a perfect place to weaponize the GOP sales pitch - Fox News - where they could lie to their hearts’ content and spew nonsense 24/7/365.

The birther movement gave a bunch of bigoted pricks the power to question the Americanism of anyone they deemed not American for them. We could have rejected Trump, first as he played the movement, then as he ran for his party’s nomination, and then in the general election. Trump’s election is a dark stain for this nation.

Dinesh NEVER had integrity. My late husband and I attended a speech he gave at Northwestern University 25+ years ago and it reeked of racism. He knew nothing and cared less of the African American experience in this country. He has always been a man without ethics, decency, or principles.

I realize I’m the Archduke Factoid of Buzzkill-Holstein (yellow field with two red bees passant; green escutcheon with black fig leaf) but…right after the war the shit-stirring started. Not amongst everyday people, but people with power and fears about the Cold War sometimes began to “understand” the Nazis. Operation: Paperclip didn’t just scoop up scientists but “intelligence” experts who were seen as useful to fight Soviet influence. And sheep-dipping was used to make men who’d done terrible things seem acceptable. Stay-behind missions in Europe put military and intelligence men in close contact with remaining fascists as allies, resulting in shit like Gladio.

But I’d say the bigger thing is that America is in denial about the cultural legacy of the Civil War. The Lost Cause and the Stab in the Back have the same strains of revanchism, self-pity, and having been made the villains for acts of “normal” self-defense and warmaking. Each has its layers of scapegoats: Jews and socialists versus blacks, “carpetbaggers.” There’s the same just-so story, with the same root concept—white supremacy—and the same mix of sentimentality, aesthetics, and pseudoscience
assembled into a vague “politics.” At some point these phenomena were going to collide and trade plasmids.

The other thing that should be prodded more is how organizations like the John Birch Society imported Nazi tropes as part of their anti-Communism. I mean, they kicked off the “Cultural Marxism” craze that’s an exact gloss of Kulturbolschewismus—okay, okay, the “Jews” part is made a dogwhistle—and their share of the conservative culture has expanded over time: Rapture-ready people have ingested a steady diet of JBS material that’s been used to shape the “meaning” of John’s Revelation. Left Behind and it’s accompanying exegetical materials, are full of the because of LaHaye’s JBS participation.

Quite right: it’s long been known (to anyone who would research it even on a cursory level) that “Naziism” per se wasn’t a new thing, but a collection of old (in some cases ancient) memes, tropes and notions that had been kicking around in the sewers of European thought for a long time. Hitler’s evil political genius was in stacking them all together - with good German efficiency - into a nice coherent package. A package decorated with striking graphics, snappy uniforms, and a simplistic worldview requiring nothing but acceptance and obedience. Oh, and the facile satisfaction of “success” through violence. A winner every time.

I’ll never be great but I might get to ok and I’ll keep plugging anyway since I started 1 & 3/4 years ago (oct will be the 2 year anniversary of me getting my little Casino that I love so much).

I’d still love a lesson from Joe or Pete (Townsend that is ;) especially since my all time favorite player has move on (Joe Strummer). But I still keep playing anyway.

You mean there is actually some hotel that isn’t sold out?

Well, for just the heck’s sake, I checked ones by the airport and they are indeed sold out. The Super 8 had one room left. I live pretty close, so I will be staying home that day. MODOT said they are expecting 6 times the number of cars in 1-29 on the 21st.

Sure, those were neo-Nazis.

Now, colloquially I may use “Nazi” myself, when I’m lazy or on twitter, to describe neo-Nazis.

But when someone is already using the more precise and correct term with the prefix “neo”, “correcting” them by recommending to drop it is incorrect in this context.

But there are not many sides to Charlottesville. There is the anti-racist activist who was killed, and the white supremacist who killed her. There is the mob chanting the Nazi cry of “blood and soil,” and the citizens demanding equality and respect. There is the confederacy, and there is the United States. There are the torches of neo-Nazis and the torch of the Statue of Liberty. There is Donald Trump and there is patriotism.

Read the whole thing.

We are camping (glamping) on the edge of the totality band and dashing on one of three roadways to small towns on the centerline. Cloudcover will determine which of them, sitting in an arc about 50 miles apart.

NO. This is totally fucking believable. Everything this admin and all those within it and part of it and the president’s family are in turns craven, liars, bigots, fabulists, plagiarists, and far worse.

Nothing about this craven cabal surprises me. Not even the depravities and lies and omissions. Not the treasonous/seditious acts. None of it.

It’s who these people have always been.

Edit:

And yes, this may be a fabulist’s work as well - trying to build off the earlier plagiarism controversy, but everything we know about the admin gives them zero wiggle room and no benefit of doubt.

I’ve been doing Mexican simply because pork butt’s been really cheap recently.

Which means inexpensive dabbling with carnitas, pibil, lomitos, et cetera.

The big plus side being that the end result can be broken down and frozen easily, then gussied up with add-ins (beans, fresh veg, pickled veg) and shoved in tortillas or tacos or whatnot. That way I can fix a comparatively fast meal, with a bit of variety.

So what’s in the Moroccan chickpea stew that makes it Moroccan?

Spice blend, mostly. I would say it is “inspired by” and not traditional at all. I’d provide the link but I cannot find the open tab atm. >.>

re: #425 Eventual Carrion

They were 2 parties, Southern Democrats and Democrats. Ran against each other in the 1860 election. Were far apart ideologically. Southern Democrats became Republicans later.

This is a historical fact. The Southern Democrats became known as “Dixiecrats” but they were never in step with the liberal Democratic party of FDR, Adlai Stevenson or even LBJ. (Woodrow Wilson was a Dixiecrat but CMIIW)

Dixiecrats voted 3rd party in 1960, and since 1964 have gone GOP.

I’m always curious about what makes a cuisine distinct. It’s part of the cookbook-lust.

Except there’s no truly “right” answer, only trends, so every “inspired” version is perspective.

To me, Moroccan is preserved lemons, just because it’s the thing the stands out

Found the tab! I’ll be working off of this base but probably riffing on it because that’s what I do.

re: #41 Khal Wimpo (wounded at Bowling Green)

I think that you have missed the emerging narrative. “Poor young kid surrounded by screaming blah people, made a mistake, hit the accelerator rather than the brake, was in fear for his life, hey did you hear about the Clinton scandals?”

Fox New and Rush will make this disappear by the start of football season.

Except for the fact while I watched the various videos, I couldn’t help but notice that most of the people on that street were white, just like Heather.

guess they are all what the white supremacists like to sneeringly call “race traitors”.

*SPIT*

Addendum that should not be necessary, but I feel compelled to add: There were people of all different outward appearance (skin, hair, and probably eye colors…and various fashion statements). I like to refer to the alt-right Nazi/KKK as human race traitors, but that’s just me.

Getting particularly bitchy (on a SUNDAY, no less!) so I’ll just park my old crone butt in a comfy corner and just make faces at these young white male eejits who can’t manage to get an date and haven’t got the first clue why…

Chickpea curries are super convenient. I prepare them more than any other legume or dal. And they seem especially capable of handling random add-ins or substitutions.

His parents more than likely are just as bad or worse.
My family came out of Poland in the 1930’s to escape these same evil types.
When they moved west from New York City to Texas they ran into some of the same crap in a city near Houston so they moved to the Dallas area.

JFC, just fuck off already with your blatant bullshit.

Imma gonna have to pass on the troll BBQ this time around.

What city near Houston? Don’t use Google Maps.

BBD has had many harsh “expert opinions” about Louisiana in the past and Houston is kinda close to Lousiana…sooo….

naw…BBD is just an asshole.
