God, I didn’t think that trial could possibly get worse, but now I think I need to take a shower after reading that.

It’s not surprising. McDonnell was a prominent Republican, seen as VP or even Presidential material. So having jail time on his record will delay, if not derail entirely, his future political ambitions.
