Chinese TV shows always have Chinese subs, because of the diversity of languages here. Nearly everyone shares the same characters, but pronounce them in very different ways.

Occasionally, you’ll see subs on American news and documentary programs, when a regional accent is so thick the director thinks subs will help the audience understand what was said.
