A while ago Charles added some code to the reply mechanism two strip out blockquotes that weren’t at the top level on the reply to avoid posts that were quotes of quotes of quotes. In fact, some people used to make a game of it. I’ve seen several posts (and I don’t think they were just you) where this is showing up, and given that he just put in a new version of the JQuery library I’m expecting that some bug has been introduced.

I’m assuming all you did was hit the reply button.
