Obama Visits Washington Post

Barack Obama visited the Washington Post to meet the editorial board and national staff, but his tour of the 5th floor newsroom nearly stopped the presses.

Staff writers, photographers, editors and employees from other departments lined the hallway after word spread that the President-elect would be walking through the newroom.

At about 3:15 p.m., Obama entered through a back hallway and began shaking hands, as professional newsmen and women reached over to shake his hand and take pictures. Obama was trailed by advisor David Axelrod, assistant Reggie Love, Post Chairman Donald Graham, Publisher Katharine Weymouth and Editor Marcus Brauchli.

UPI is a hollow shell of what it used to be, see their wiki entry. Late at night on their wires you can see unadulterated Hezbollah and Hamas agitprop on their feed before the day crew gets in and cleans the garbage out. In the end who cares what the Moonies say?

UPI was purchased in 2000 by Sun Myung Moon's global media conglomerate News World Communications, becoming an addition to the Unification Church media portfolio. At the time Moon said:

"We even have to utilize the media for the sake of church development. The church is the mind and the media is the body, to reach the external world. We should begin that movement and activity in the United States, because the Washington Times and UPI are headquartered there. Once we establish our organization in the United States, it can be expanded to the world without much alteration."[2][3]
After 57 years with UPI, its best-known reporter Helen Thomas resigned her position as UPI's chief White House correspondent in May 2000, the day after it was acquired by News World. [4] Since the resignation of Thomas, UPI for the first time does not have a reporter in the White House press corps.[5]

In 2004, UPI won the Clapper Award from the Senate Press Gallery and the Fourth Estate Award for its investigative reporting on the dilapidated hospitals awaiting wounded U.S. soldiers returning from Iraq.

By 2007, UPI, which once had 6000 employees in 223 news and picture bureaus around the world, thousands of nonstaff “stringers,” and 7,500 customers in 100 countries, had fewer than 50 employees. In August 2007, the company reduced that number further, and currently has only five reporters in its Washington D. C. headquarters. Several dozen stringers still file regular reports from key regions of the world. More than a dozen editors are stationed in various cities in the United States and elsewhere.

Big Media is going to have to learn how to live with being fact checked.

I think that many of them will figure out how to do it and how to prosper in a world where there are no free passes on what they write and what they air. I also think that many of them won't.

The future will be interesting.

The MSM does not want the truth out there unless it furthers its agenda. If there is a piece of crap/fake journalism that will suck in the masses to garner support for their side, they use it.

There have been questions about the video being faked or staged; but the headline indicates it was the boy's actual death that was in question.

After security screeners spotted the grenade in the "Jackass" star's carry-on luggage, a bomb squad determined it lacked a firing pin or explosive. Police say Knoxville was later released and allowed to board an American Airlines flight to Miami.

OT I already knew the pilot of the US Air plane that landed in the Hudson was an Air Force vet prior to flying for US Air but when I got home from work and turned on CNN at approx 6:30 EST I did not hear mention of it until the end of Campbell Brown's segment at approx 8:55. No talking head has mentioned that important fact since. I spoke with a couple of friends on the phone in that time and they had no idea until I told them. What is the MSM fixation on relegating the Forces contribution to society as being not worth mention?

Yeah, but the people who try to google "Little Green Fields" to get the other side of the story will be out of luck, and left with only the denial and the assumption that this "Little Green Fields" blog is some obscure fringe nobody if it doesn't even show up on google. So can we really be 100% certain that the misnomer was completely accidental?

I was suspicious enough to wonder that, too. Was it done on purpose to stop people finding this site? Or as an insult, a cut?

Piss on Hamas was my thinking so I wrote this.

Sang to the song I am woman

We are Hamas, hear out chants
Israeli jets make us piss our pants
We are tough bad asses we want to pretend
then we hear Israelis soar
we know its time to hit the floor
Oh great now our underpants are stained again

Oh whats that Achmed
all our terrorist friends are dead?
that’s the price they paid
To get to heaven, to get laid
They just wanted to kill a Jew
but now their…
a mass of sticky goo
they were hamas

they have bent us and they broke us
and in their prisons thugs will poke us
so we can run to Iran or maybe Afghanistan
but we cant hide here any longer
Israel is so much stronger
than a bunch savages thumping their Quran.

re: #72 Cognito

More like the writer didn't reaally have a clue about what he or she was talking about, and thus typed in what, to them, made sense. It's not just that the author could have made a mistake. Everybody's human.

The problem is that the MSM keeps saying that they are more qualified to bring readers the news because of the layers of fact-checking, verification, and editing that the MSM brings to the table. This is not an unreasonable claim. It just happens to be false. As has been proven so many times in the last 15-20 years.

This would have been an obvious error if anyone had done any cursory check of the sources or the story. And that is the point.

Funny...when I was getting my journalism degree (yes, it's true...but I swear I've never used it!), one of the things that would get you an automatic failing grade on an assignment was misspelling a name.

Maybe my state university had higher standards than whatever Ivy League school that idiot went to, though...

Actually, there are problems with the video which have led many of us to conclude the video was either faked or staged, but has anyone said the boy's death was fake?

Thanks, Reine.de.tout.
That's what I thought when I read it, too.
There's no doubt in my mind that a child died.
He just didn't die during what was video'ed as ''medical treatment.''
And he was not damaged as the family said.
And the roof was not hit by any Israeli weapon.
All evidence points to a Qassam, if anything hit the roof....or a pick ax if the family staged the whole thing.
I really wish the people of Gaza had learned what REAL medical treatment looked like.
They'd turn on Hamas en masse if they only knew.

Give Geese A Chance

After an event such as this one, it’s important to look at the root causes: Why did the Geese attack us?
....
The fact is, WE (and, of course, Israel) are responsible for the rise of militant Gooslam. Given our actions, is it any wonder that gaggles of Goslings would reject the teachings of moderate Goose leaders, when those leaders are perceived as being in the pocket of the West? Given our actions, is it any wonder that these young Gooslamists would flock to more assertive leaders, leaders whose commitment to their cause cannot be questioned? Given our actions, the rise of a “Goosama” was inevitable. We have only ourselves to blame.

Agreed. There wouldn't have been just some 'blood splatters' from that kind of trauma. We should have seen pools of blood since there were two kids allegedly. And they wouldn't have washed anything away considering that the Palis go for maximum emotional displays of carnage.

Hey, now, stop that! Everyone knows that Obama's mentor Bernadine Dohrn was a big fan of Charles Manson. Don't go dissin' good old Charlie. Dohrn might have to blow up your car.

If the average Obamaton tried to blow up my car they'd burn their lips on the tailpipe. Which is half of the reason why even if BO was caught in bed with BOTH an live boy AND a dead girl NOTHING would happen to him. A fully compliant media is the other half of the equation.

Until that equation is altered (and believe me it will take a LOT to alter it) he's bulletproof. I have now doubt the situation will change, but not for a very long time. Hopefully by 2012.

Sucking on them suckers could kill a person too, in which case one would be relieved of all pain. lol!

But just ask Cognito. He'll tell you all about how centrist Obama's picks are. Another tool in the tool shed.

"Centrist" is a very mobile position:

"Hillary Clinton has been wrong — terribly wrong, Left wrong — on virtually every important issue since she was in college: from the Vietnam War on. Those issues mattered a great deal, to the country and the world. And, during the Democratic primaries, she came off as a wee bit more tough-minded than her principal opponent, Senator Obama. And now conservatives are acting like she’s some combination of Colonel Stimson, John Foster Dulles, and George Shultz (whom conservatives didn’t like very much, but that’s another story . . .).

As a friend of mine quipped, when Obama chose Hillary, and conservatives responded with relieved cheers, “Whom was he supposed to pick — Billy Ayers? Noam Chomsky? How much worse were they expecting?”

Formed in 1886 as "ATF". Always been there.

Actually, the tobacco part wasn't added until the 1950s, before then it was only to prosecute illegal transportation of alcohol. In 1968, the duty of firearms regulations was added to its responsibilities, and then after 9/11 the explosive part of the ATFE was added. Your still basically correct, as the current incarnation traces back to then :)

re: #402 MandyManners

I tried to get my grandmother's biscuit recipe once but, she did it by feeling.

Had lunch with some folks today, and this topic of trying to get recipes from mom and grandma came up.

One of the folks there said he tried to get his grandma's fruitcake recipe, and she flat out told him she couldn't write it down! she had no clue what she did.

So they talked her into making notes the next time she made the fruitcake, and everybody got a copy of that recipe.

Then somebody put together a family recipe book, then the church did one . . . and when they compared all 3 of grandma's fruitcake recipes, they discovered there were three completely different versions.

Lotsa people used to be able to cook "by touch".
I've never been able to.

I'm not kidding. At least in the sense that the critters around these parts are not like some afraid little woodland bunnies. We have moose, elk, deer (big deer), mountain lions and other big cats, fox, coyote and so on. And they will hop out in front of you cars or try to jump them.

There is an interesting mix of people and animal around the foothills and mountains, and there is a healthy fear, but they don't run from us.

A guy that used to work with my dad lost a son to a deer that basically tried to jump over his car and hit the windshield instead. That can be a really serious thing.

A friend's dad was riding his scooter (motorized) in the Santa Cruz mountains, got hit by a deer: the deer lived, he died from the injuries.

Yeah, it is really scary. I mean, really scary. I don't think w've ever had a President with this kind of Cult of Personality and worshipful fawning on by the Press as this. Even Kennedy didn't get the demigod treatment until after he'd been assassinated. Obama could do anything, and there's not a lot any of us could do to prevent him from doing it. The Democrats don't want to stop him, and the Republicans are too pussy to do anything.

Right now I don't see any shred of light. The economy has just gotten kicked down, so the Feds are going to print boucoup dollars to hand out in bailouts. And that means inflation. 3 Wood said 15-20% when I asked him where he thought it would go, and he knows more about it than I do. He had some math behind the figures, too. It wasn't just a guess pulled out of his ass. I just got a windfall of enough to pay off my credit cards, leaving my house, my car, and my motorcycle as the only debt to my name.

Part of me thinks I should invest the money in firepower.

A handgun and a rifle are not bad investments: in fact, they could save your life.

Cute and sexy. But, switch to Safari. Safari, on some websites, has a little trouble formatting some parts of the page (like a line of text my extend out of a box), but most website looks fine.

And LGF is written to work best in Safari. I bogged down in IE7 around 500 comments, with Safari, it's never bogged down at all.

Safari is made by Apple and it is free.

Try it, Google it and install, it can't hurt, you still can use IE7 if you don't like Safari.

Do you know what it was?

I can only pray it was the UN compound.

He's got inflation up to about 31%, foreign money leaving as fast as it can, and a much higher percentage of his economy now dependent on oil exports. I think you're right.

Problem with gold is that it is tough to get people to give you change when you only want to buy a loaf of bread.

Fortunately between Mrs. Reject and I we are able to grow and can most of our own food.

Hi x-wing, sounds like you are settled in for a night of fun!
Let's see...um...there is a war going on, quietly.

Hi, yep ready for the long haul. Hopefully I wont need carry-out fruit cup tonight.

I see that big ball of fire back there, but it is alot quieter tonight. Maybe not as many targets to hit, hopefully.

Embedding disabled, Mandy. It's a nice song either way. I think Sporcle has a quiz on the lyrics:

OT I already knew the pilot of the US Air plane that landed in the Hudson was an Air Force vet prior to flying for US Air but when I got home from work and turned on CNN at approx 6:30 EST I did not hear mention of it until the end of Campbell Brown's segment at approx 8:55. No talking head has mentioned that important fact since. I spoke with a couple of friends on the phone in that time and they had no idea until I told them. What is the MSM fixation on relegating the Forces contribution to society as being not worth mention?

I hate to say it, but I think that most of them are total wimps who would never dare to do anything except shoot off their mouths.

The electricity seems to be out everywhere.

And no sounds of generators: they may be running out of fuel.

I'm very much afraid that gun control will be on the menu later this spring.

If Holder becomes AG, you can count on it.

Gold is not a bad idea. I hadn't even considered it. I'll probably still pay off my credit-card debt, but that an extra $500 a month takehome. That money will be available for something.

Here's a good place to follow the action - and learn as you go:

They had lights on, but with dawn coming up, it's harder to tell....

"downhill course and never "uphill course". But that word "increasingly" just irritates me. It's MSM code for "biased info coming up"

Interesting. I'll start looking for it. Just like the well-known "but" found in so many biased stories.

of course the blog was misnamed on purpose. a lame attempt to discredit ("oh yeah, some little blog, i don't know, little green puffballs, or something"). also an attempt to keep people from finding the site.

Dear Charles,

It could be worse. They could have refered to your site as "Little Green Football Fields," in which case even we would have to laugh at them.

Well can you really have green footballs without a green field to toss them about in? Or maybe this is a combination of little green footballs with strawberry fields? Anyway, it's easy to see why UPI pays the big bucks it does to its reporters (erm, mean democrat psychofants).

626 sfcmac  Sun, Jan 18, 2009 9:01:42am
CNN is standing by the report, IsraelINN said. The Israeli military said it had no knowledge of the incident.

Dan Rather has some documents. He swears they're genuine.

627 sfcmac  Sun, Jan 18, 2009 9:03:10am

BTW: Kudos on exposing the fraud, Charles!
