re: #214 Shiplord Kirel

I have praised Andrew Jackson at times, particularly for his, er, firm stand against the South Carolina nullifiers (“I will hang the first man of them I can lay my hand on from the first tree I can reach”). He had the full measure of his virtues in his faults, though, and then some.
It isn’t enough to say he was a man of his times, and therefore limited by the prevailing standards, since many of his harsher actions, like the “Trail of Tears,” were widely condemned at the time.

I think Davy Crockett was critical of it but my knowledge and recollection of that era’s history isn’t the best. I know the court did not rule unanimously in favor of Jackson when the Cherokee sued him either.
