Charles, Mrs. Fish had a question about that, around the context of the statement. Do we know that’s exactly the message he was trying to convey? The statement, by itself, is pretty empty.

My gut reaction is to want to assume someone is joking or being self-deprecating when speaking like this.

In this case, there’s enough previous evidence that Trump:

a) actually said it in all earnestness
b) believes it
c) believes that he has Xi snowed/intimidated/impressed with him.
