I always liked W’s excuse:

He said, ‘here’s the fine.’ I paid the fine.”Bush said the timing of the initial news report, just days before Americans elect a new president, was “interesting.” When asked where the story may have originated, he said, “I’ve got my suspicions.”

I’ll tell you when that story originated, George. It originated when you were drunk out of your mind, got behind the wheel of a car, and crashed into a tree on the shoulder. It’s a good thing you didn’t kill anyone.
