There is a very serious conversation going on right now between the US and China over the future of North Korea. They both know the regime is collapsing, the problem is will it come down fast, hard and dangerous, or will it be a slow and careful slide. The object is who gets to deal with the mess. China does not want a reunified Korea dominated by the US. They would prefer a docile, tamed puppet state in North Korea. This is what the discussions are about and Beijing is right now emphasizing a point to Washington about how much pain & trouble North Korea could be if the US doesn’t cooperate with China.
