Hey guys, I was wondering what you all thought of the opening episode of “The Pacific” last night. I’m going to give it a shot, but have to say my first impression was that it’s not going to be as good as “Band of Brothers”.

The scene where the Marines used the Japanese soldier for target practice was a red flag for me. I know there was that short sequence showing the bodies tied to the trees as the Marines moved inland, but it came across as a fairly lame “excuse” for a protracted scene that made the Marines look like sadists.

Not a good start IMHO.

Any thoughts?

I saw it and though that particular scene was not pleasant to watch was actually glad that it was in there because it indicated to me that the show was not going to be scared of covering the dark side and complexities of war and conflict and what it does to humans whomever they might be and was not just going to be a rah rah we’re the best sort of thing. The Great ,the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. Band of Brothers explored those aspects too which is one of the reasons it’s on the top on my list of War flicks.
