How exactly do you “research” creation outside of just saying God did it. Creation science is a cop out for “I don’t want to think.”

I was thinking the same thing, more or less. I mean, if you’re going to accept the Bible as a history or science book, then it requires that you believe whatever is in it. I don’t even know where that idea comes from… it weirds me out when people try to understand history or science via scripture (and vice versa). Ditto for medicine, math, etc.

This is doubly true in that scripture typically has to be interpreted, not taken literally, and there are a bazillion ways to interpret things.

The only thing I’m sure of is that no single book—no history book, no science book, no religious book—has all the answers for everything & everyone at all times. We have to figure out some things for ourselves and we have to decide when looking to a particular book (or field of knowledge) might be useful to solve whatever problem/question is at hand.

It’s not that complicated, but the notion of doing so seems to scare the crap out of some people. Who knows, maybe they just don’t want to be held responsible for their choices—it’s always easier to blame external influences beyond one’s control than to accept personal responsibility for one’s screw-ups. *shrugs*
