Sure as hell is. It’s why I haven’t bothered calling my wingnut friends out on their shit because they have their heads in the sand so deep that they’ve hit the Earth’s core.

The pernicious part of it is, they know, on some level, and are making an effort to stay there because it’s rewarding, and easier.
