Despite the earthquake swarm, there no signs that an eruption of Askja is imminent. Nonetheless, an earthquake swarm under a dormant volcano bears watching and if there were a large eruption of Askja, it could well play havoc with air travel here in Europe, much like Eyjafjallajokull did back in 2010.

The Eyjafjallajokul eruption was great, it was extraordinary to have many days without a contrail in the sky.

At least Askja is easier to spell.
