Meghan McCain is Wrong About Andrew Breitbart
Joint Statement of GOProud Co-Founders Christopher R. Barron and
Jimmy LaSalvia

(Washington, D.C.) – Last night on the Reverend Al Sharpton Show on MSNBC, Meghan McCain referred to the late Andrew Breitbart as an “extremist” and accused him of engaging in “hate” politics, claiming he played on people’s “fears.” In response, Christopher R. Barron and Jimmy LaSalvia, co-founders of GOProud – a national organization of gay and straight Americans seeking to promote freedom by supporting free markets, limited government, and a respect for individual rights – issued the following statement:

“Meghan McCain should be absolutely ashamed of herself. She went on a liberal network with a liberal host and demonized Andrew Breitbart. During his life, Andrew Breitbart did more for gay people, and showed more political courage on behalf of gay people, than Meghan McCain could ever dream of.

“When GOProud was just getting started and under intense fire from anti-gay forces within the conservative movement, Andrew Breitbart reached out to us and took up our fight as his own. Andrew showed real courage, standing up to the intolerance of some in the conservative movement.

“We didn’t always see eye to eye with Andrew, but we could always count on him as a friend, and he never backed away from his support for this organization and for gay conservatives in general.

“Andrew Breitbart wasn’t an ‘extremist’ – he was a committed conservative. Andrew didn’t engage in ‘hate’ politics – indeed he stood up to hate. Andrew didn’t play on people’s fears – quite the contrary, Andrew inspired tens of thousands of conservatives who had been bullied by the left for years to stand up and fight like hell for what they believed in.

“Meghan McCain has made quite the career for herself picking fights with high profile conservatives and then going on liberal outlets to trash them. She picked a fight this time with a man who isn’t even alive to defend himself. As usual, however, this is a fight Meghan McCain has lost.”

Well, I guess I do get it. Meghan McCain is an easy “RINO” target you can attack to try and ingratiate yourself with the base, but doubt it’s enough to be allowed back into CPAC. Oh, and I wonder if they really managed to write, “Andrew didn’t play on people’s fears,” with a straight face.
