This is security theater. And ultimately it hurts US tourism because people simply wont travel to/from those parts unless they absolutely have to. Business will suffer too, including energy business work.

Trump doesn’t care.

And if there was an actual threat relating to electronic devices originating in one of those countries, there’s no reason to trust Trump on the rationale given all his other lies about security rationales. However, even if there’s an actual threat, the electronic device ban could be circumvented by terrorists simply by changing itineraries so that they fly through Europe or Asia instead.

This instead looks like a pain point all to justify action of some sort, rather than actual improvement of security.

Trump seems to be doing everything he can to harm the travel industry, which employs far more people than coal mining. What kind of kickbacks is he getting from Big Coal?
