Read the books. They are definitely aimed at our war-as-entertainment culture.

The third book, Mockingjay, should not even remotely be considered Young Adult Fiction. It is military science fiction, and the body count is horrific. Suzanne Collins is making a statement…and war is not pretty, the “good guys” are not always good and even the survivors may not come home intact.

Mockingjay was brutal. I was glad to see it, to be honest. After the drivel that is Twilight, it was nice to see a YA book series end on such a bloody, violent, utterly harsh note, with definite effects on the lead characters.
