The GOP/TP IRS kerfuffle has blown up in his face.

Far from targeting TP groups, the IRS was doing its job in scrutinizing groups seeking exemptions. That’s what the IRS is supposed to be doing, and while the TIGTA found that the IRS used improper search terms to help narrow down those groups for scrutiny, the IRS was investigating hundreds of groups with liberal leanings as well. All without the fanfare and craziness proffered by the TP and Issa.

The IRS is forced to choose where and how to do its job because it lacks the personnel and resources to give every application the kind of scrutiny needed to keep only those groups that are eligible for nonprofit status under 501(c)(4) in the process. That’s on Congress - to either provide more funding or to clarify the rules so that they’re crystal clear on what constitutes political activity that would void the nonprofit status.
