I’ve mainly been going off of its poor sales. Nokia and its deal-with-the-devil Windows 8 phones haven’t exactly been burning up the sales charts. Microsoft ate $900 million in its Surface RT tablet inventory. Windows 8 on the desktop is such a major paradigm shift that businesses aren’t willing to pay the cost to retrain employees, and are retaining Windows 7 for the foreseeable future. Microsoft tried to homogenize the desktop and tablet space, and it just doesn’t work too well for either.
That’s a big issue. Retraining costs a good bit of money and lost productivity.
