Well, I don’t even get why you think there wouldn’t have been a Civil War. The abolitionists formed after the constitution, and were duly elected. A lot of them would have gotten elected in the same states, and would have pushed for abolition just the same.

Whereas it seems self-evident to me that a country of thirteen slave states probably would not have a civil war over slavery.
