A better long range plan would have been to attract non-white people in general and anyone with an IQ above room temperature, instead of alienating them. The GOP leadership (and I use that term very loosely) has basically handed the Democrats the fastest growing demographic (non-white people) on a silver platter, and succeeded only in attracting the dregs of the white people demographic, a dwindling resource.

Because by basically doing anything at all to appeal to non-white voters, they would have totally alienated their “base”.
