I have thought that maybe a modest achievement of making 100 comments or getting 50 karma before granting rating or spinoff rights could be a good idea. Just to make sure the hatchlings are participating.

That’s also a great idea. On the downside it means no more “equal Lizards” but for a short probation period only, and that doesn’t look so bad.
