‘Hazardous Device’ Found In College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WUSA) — Prince George’s County Fire Spokesperson Mark Brady says a hazardous device was found in a College Park neighborhood on Friday morning and several people of interest were questioned. Brady did not know whether there had been any arrests.

The device was reported around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Edgewood Road and Rhode Island Avenue. Homes on either side of the device, in the 5000 block of Edgewood Road, were evacuated. A man says he was alerted about the situation by a neighbor who told him the whole block was cordoned off. The man reported that he heard a boom and saw smoke near a white van at a home.

…According to Brady, a device described as a pipe bomb exploded on a front porch of a house earlier this week in the 8800 block of 48th Avenue in College Park. He says authorities have not ruled out the possibility that the two incidents may be related, but also says the investigation into that incident is also ongoing.
