The GOP are caught in a Catch-22 situation going forward. The only way to keep the base happy and avoid an electoral slaughter next year is for Trump to resign voluntarily. But he won’t resign voluntarily unless he feels he’ll be removed involuntarily, which will turn the base against the party and lead to an electoral slaughter.
