re: #220 freetoken

When I first came to China, our local supermarkets gave you bags for free. Then a couple of years later, the closest one to me began charging 2 mao (CHY0.20 = 3 cents) a bag. No biggie, no one complained, because the price is negligible. Also, I have two Tyvek shopping bags from Tesco, and a canvas bag I bought in Hong Kong. I recommend getting one of those — Walmart and Kroger sell them for like a $1. The ones with longer handles allow you to carry one on your shoulder, freeing your hands for other things. For heavier items, like a bag of rice, I use my day pack. I also walk to and from the supermarket, so I’ve got it down to a science.

The fuss in California about plastic bags befuddles me. Certainly one of the largest first world problems ever.
