I would have liked her to have seen the first woman elected President. She was born the year women got the vote, and seeing one in the Oval Office would have been a nice bookend.
Why are they fussing over a Muslim mayor of London? Mayors deal with local matters: more bike lanes, potholes, and crosswalks than foreign policy. If anything Mayors must at times feel pretty helpless: they can’t set policy here, but are tasked with somehow managing the fallout of that policy when it shows up at their doorstep and in their neighborhoods. And with not enough resources to deal with it.
And about transgenders: the only thing different now is that trans people feel safe enough to say so and have the means to make their external appearance truly compatible with their internal feelings. Think about all of the years we simply didn’t know anything about it at all, and people simply did things to hide it, and went to the bathroom anyway. In any event, most people never look that closely to tell.
