“One Less Bell to Answer” is definitely one of my faves in any genre and from any period; IMO, it’s one of Burt Bacharach and Hal David’s finest compositions (along with “What the World Needs Now Is Love”; Jackie DeShannon’s version is the gold standard, but I love Bacharach’s short version of it, accompanying himself on piano, during the end credits of Austin Powers: Goldmember), but Marilyn McCoo and the rest of the group just gave it melancholy and soul.
