And, I wonder now that it is clear that neither the “base” (religious right) nor the wild-eyed/independents support him, what Romney will do. Will he even try to tack more to the “right”, changing even more of his opinions? Does he start to trash the First Lady?

Sure, I expect the NH Republicans to vote for Romney just to spite everyone else (including IA), but in South Carolina Romney is weak, and then in Florida the religious right will rally around Santorum.

Mitt won’t ever be able to admit in public that he is running for the nomination of a party that on the whole doesn’t really want him, but in private I wonder what he says?
