nope. one is a tough concept that 8th graders can handle. the other is a tough concept that 8th graders can handle but good luck getting them to focus on anything BUT that topic.

there are 8,456,324 better texts for dealing with sexual content than Anne Frank, at least in jr. high.

reasonable people can disagree. i’m not a troglodyte, especially if you don’t have any clue about who edited this thing in the first place.

I take issue with your characterization of “8th graders” as a monolithic entity that all behave and learn exactly the same.

The issue is not the details of the work, the issue is, can an eigth grader handle a work with sexual content in it? Some can, come cannot. My accellerated classes in jr. high absolutely could. These were not sniggering little twits in these classes.

And I’ll leave it to educators as to whether the work should or should not be taught, or whether it’s better or worse than another text. My point is simply that some kids can handle it.
