He has 10 million followers, but that in no way shape or form means 10 million supporters.

For instance, I follow him on Twitter. Not because I like him, but because I need to see the next insane thing he’ll say and push back against that level of insanity.

I do that with a whole bunch of right wing outlets/pundits - both to know what they’re saying, and to push back.

I’m hardly alone in that. Followers simply shouldn’t be seen as a measure of support.

I’ll go back to Howard Stern and Private Parts - where he relayed how the radio station was incredulous about his ratings, and who was listening. The people who hated what he had to say were much more engaged and listened for longer than those who liked what he had to say. That’s the same dynamic here.
