A classic talking point: “Most of the men fighting for the Confederacy did not even own slaves!”

Because according to the Confederate Conscription Act, men owning more than 20 slaves were exempt from the draft. They had to stay home and protect the womenfolk…

Right. And I imagine plenty of those slave owners did in fact serve in the home guards.
