On people not being able to think in any system other than that with which they grew up:

After Canada went metric in the Seventies, they put up signs near US ports-of-entry which read “Maximum 100 = 60mph.”

On our recent trip to Massachusetts, they had a new such sign on the QEW just after the port-of-entry from New York. It’s been over forty years.
