re: #231 NY Nana

I watched, I learned. :-) Thank you.

My best friend from high school dated like a mad woman in New Orleans for 20 years. When she finally announced she would marry in her late thirties we were all shocked (we knew she would never “settle down”.) To my amazement, he was a devout Jew. (She was raised Catholic, not so surprising the choice, what was surprising was to come.) She undertook formal instruction in Judaism for quite a long time before they were wedded, converted, and I remember a visit to her home shortly after the wedding. The change was astonishing to me. There were cherished family memorabilia from his family everywhere …. a sense of deep reverence, tradition, and history. The change in her was astounding to me. She spoke for hours of the Jewish traditions, explained the stories behind the pictures, the heirloom pieces here and there ….it was marvelous.

This was my first exposure to Judaism. She has since moved to the Northeast, but that visit really opened my eyes. Being here at LGF has taken that fledgling knowledge and understanding to a much deeper level.

Thanks, Nana.
