What causes the bubbles in a glass of champagne?

We watched a segment on about how champagne is made (at Korbel) Saturday night on Food Network’s Unwrapped (it was a show about foods that fizz), and the guy at Korbel estimated there were 50 million bubbles in a bottle of champagne, based on the volume of the bottle and the amount of CO2.
