The Saudis are playing a tricky balancing act: remaining relatively secular in many ways but tolerating and even promoting fundamentalist Islamic teaching. It is about to backfire on them.

I doubt it. They know the secular bits are just for show, as long as Mecca is in their boundaries. Once the region starts to “fall in line,” then they’ll be a little less two-faced about it.
