As opposed to providing some level of protection against the strain? Are people becoming ill because each strain is sufficiently different that there is no real protection? OTOH looking at (e.g.) France, while case numbers are certainly rising, deaths remain relatively low, nothing like the previous wave from omicron earlier this year. Let’s hope that this onslaught proves not to be as deadly as previous ones, at least partly because of the effectiveness of available therapeutics.

It’s clearly not enough protection for some people. We don’t really know what percentage of the population is vulnerable to being worn down by this disease, rather than building defenses against it.

Most people might be OK, or it could be the one that seriously thins our population. I’m not hearing about mass deaths of restaurant workers who are constantly exposed to the disease, so that’s a good sign.
